Rwanda Unveils 10 year Plan

On Thursday, Rwandan President Paul Kagame unveiled a 10 year conservation program to promote reforestation and protect the world’s rapidly diminishing numbers of Great Apes.

“We are immensely appreciative of Mr. Townsend’s shared passion and commitment to preserve and restore our precious forests that have been destroyed by many factors including deforestation and climate change,” said Kagame.

Kagame announced the program, in Collaboration with Ted Townsend (founder of EarthPark and the Great Ape Trust) at the Clinton Global Initiative; named the Rwandan Forest Protection Program. It will bring together scientists and government to identify, dedicate and protect a region of ecologically significant size to create Rwanda’s National Conservation Park. The Great Ape Trust will also establish a field site here to research and promote reforestation and conservation.
