The Sustainable Furniture Council is a non-profit industry association founded at High Point, NC in October 2006 to promote sustainable practices among manufacturers, retailers, and consumers alike.
The SFC recognizes the overwhelming scientific consensus that our world is experiencing dangerous global climate change. SFC members acknowledge the tremendous urgency, and will take immediate steps to minimize carbon emissions, waste stream pollutants, un-recyclable content and primary materials from unsustainable sources from any product platform under our control. Social Design Network Design21 announced their latest design competition this week; the challenge – to design the official logo for “Stories from the Field: The United Nations Documentary Film Festival”.
Presented by Media Communications Association International, New York Chapter (MCA-I NY) in partnership with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) and The New School, The Stories from the Field Film Festival was organized in 2004 as the United Nations entered its 60th year. Its mission is to screen films that reflect the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, which pledge to:
Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Achieve universal primary education
Promote gender equality and empower women
Reduce child mortality
Improve maternal health
Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Ensure environmental sustainability
Develop a global partnership for development

The ethos behind the network clearly is something all visual communication designers should be ever increasingly aware of.
